Chinese fans adorned with Chinese good fortune characters, and peony flowers. These hand held paper fans have a white background and natural wood colour fretwork. With images on both sides, one side has Chinese calligraphy symbols for "good fortune", and on the other there are a pair of oriental birds sitting on a flowering Peony tree branch, (see below). This Chinese paper fan is a highly decorative ornamental piece for display in the home or workplace, and is full of ancient Chinese symbolism. The Peony flowers are symbolic of longevity and prosperity, whilst the oriental birds symbolise the coming of the spring months and new beginnings.
